Our Newly Selected 2026-2027 Peer Mentors
18 Mar, 2026
St. Agnes Upper School students have many opportunities to support the mission of our school, one of which is the role of Peer Mentor. Peer Mentors are rising seniors chosen by faculty to serve as the welcoming committee for the incoming freshman class and to ensure a smooth transition to the St. Agnes Upper School.
Mrs. Rice, faculty sponsor for the Peer Mentors shared, “To be chosen as a Peer Mentor, students submit their resumes and an application which includes a writing portion. They explain why they want to be a peer mentor and share advice they would give an incoming freshman. They must also meet certain academic and honor code criteria.”
“Our Upper School educators then vote for students that best represent SAA. These students must be welcoming and friendly, kind, organized, dependable, hard-working, and team oriented,” she added.
Taking on the role of Peer Mentor is a big commitment, as the selected students spend a large portion of their summer break planning and then leading Freshman Student Orientation. Their job doesn’t end there. They also mentor the freshmen through their first few weeks of school. The Peer Mentor program and Freshman Student Orientation are both honored St. Agnes traditions and one of the first and best memories for each class.
“Peer Mentors play a very important role in helping freshmen adjust to high school life,” explained Upper School Dean Heather Valdez. “During our two-day FSO event, the Peer Mentors guide freshmen around campus, making them feel comfortable and connected. During this time, freshmen also have an opportunity to build friendships with upperclassmen. As a result, when freshmen need a friendly face or are choosing big sisters, they already have someone they can turn to for advice or support.”
Congratulations to these Stars who were selected as Peer Mentors for the 2026-2027 school year. We know you all will do a fantastic job welcoming the SAA Class of 2030!
